UCLA wins against the odds
Jan. 1, 1966: UCLA coach Tommy Prothro is hoisted up after the fifth-ranked Bruins beat the Spartans, the No. 1 football team in the nation, to take home their first Rose Bowl win. The 14-12 victory was a staggering upset for the Michigan State team, and Prothro said three days later, “I’ve enjoyed being the underdog. We had a lot more skill and ability than the press thought we did at season’s start.” Prothro later went on to coach the Los Angeles Rams. He died in 1995 at 74.

It seems pretty clear looking at the outline behind Prothro's right ear that this photo was given some old-school help.
