Time out | Sports images from around the globe

For those of you who are sports nuts, the doldrums of summer are coming to an end and we’ve got some fascinating images for you. Among the highlights: Rafael Nadal wins his first U.S. Open championship title to complete a career Grand Slam. College football is in full swing, and the NFL kicks off its 91st season at the Superdome in New Orleans.  There’s more:  Images of Team USA winning the world basketball championship for the first time since 1994 , Tiger Woods failing to qualify for the PGA Tour Championship and a rider taking a nasty spill in the Mountain Bike and Trials World  Championships in Canada are among the interesting pictures we’ve recently selected from the sporting world.
