The Week in Pictures | Oct. 4 – Oct. 10, 2010

Each week we bring you the best images from around the world in our Week in Pictures photo gallery.

The images out of Hungary were devastating this week as millions of gallons of toxic red sludge from a chemical plant flooded neighboring towns and found its way to the Danube River.

In China, protesters rallied to free jailed dissident Liu Xiaobo, who won the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, and fishermen tried to push a stranded boat back to the sea in Qionghai.

Europe reclaimed the Ryder Cup in the final singles match, and at a walkout by London Underground workers forced commuters to find alternate forms of transportation.

Sports played a role also this week. A Ghana weightlifter was pinned under the bar after an unsuccessful lift during the men’s 69-kilogram competition at the  as the 19th Commonwealth Games, and Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers made stops in London and Spain for exhibition games.

Add stops in Australia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Venezuela, Vatican City and more — because there’s always more. Take a look.
