Thursday’s Pictures in the News begins in Europe, where winter conditions have blanketed many areas in a snowy winter wonderland.

In Athens, things have turned violent as student and police clash during a protest against austerity measures. Emotions are also running high in Kiev, Ukraine, in a protest against a proposed new tax code.

In Los Angeles, police say a person of interest in the slaying of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen turned a gun on himself at an apartment building.

Add in a Komodo dragon, none other than Santa feeding fish near the Baltic Sea and a leap of faith into the Arabian Sea and you have our report for now. Check back later as we add to Pictures in the News feature.
