Pictures in the News | Dec. 30, 2010

As we close out 2010, our Pictures in the News feature is a mixed bag. We begin in Hungary, where one man’s tradition is a dip in the icy waters of a lake in Tiszaujvaros. We also have a minimalist image of a solitary tree covered with snow in a field in Germany, and a detail shot of a rose hip covered in hoarfrost on the North Sea island of Sylt.

We warm things up a bit with a high-wire act by linemen in India, Indian students burning an effigy that depicts tobacco as a demon in Mumbai, and a couple stealing a kiss on a colorfully lighted street in Poland.

We add stops in London, Athens, Bethlehem and Sudan to round out the report.
