Hockey fist action
Sept. 28, 1978: The Kings routed Vancouver, 11-2, in an exhibition game, but the first-period fight between Kings’ wing Tommy Williams, 17, and the Canucks’ Bill Derlago, 20, was a draw.
Led by star Marcel Dionne’s four goals, the Kings led, 10-0, after two periods.
Los Angeles Times staff photographer Andy Hayt had two photos of fighting Kings and Canucks published the next day. They led the Sports section front. But the story was a one-sentence-long brief on sports page 6.
This really tight image – my favorite – was published four columns wide in a street edition of The Times.
