The Power of romances
Jan. 17, 1948: Actor Tyrone Power, right, returns to work at 20th Century-Fox Studios in Los Angeles after visiting the airport to try to meet his latest romance, Mexican actress Linda Christian, who had arrived from Mexico City. But in light of a divorce filed that day by Power’s wife of more than seven years, French actress Annabella Suzanne Charpentier Murat Power, Tyrone soon left the airport without seeing Christian.
It “would not be in good taste,” he said when photographers tried to take pictures.
As for Christian, she was stopped and detained by immigration officials because of her paperwork. She was later released in the custody of Power’s secretary.
Power and Christian were married about a year later.
The Los Angeles Times reported the next day on Power’s rush to and from Los Angeles Airport – now LAX. This photo of Power accompanied the Times story.
