33rd Cannes Film Festival

May 9, 1980: Kirk Douglas faces photographers as he walks down the Croisette to the Palais for the opening of the 33rd Cannes Film Festival, where movies from around the world are screening in and out of competition.

Bob Fosse’s “All That Jazz” tied with Akira Kurosawa’s “Kagemusha” for the year’s Golden Palm award. Douglas was president of the Cannes jury.
