Plenty of reasons to sing the blues

At the House of Blues, they call him the “face of the blues.” When Artwork Jamal sings in his deep, thick baritone, everyone listens. And it is then that every one of the blues man’s worries disappears: that he weights more than 300 pounds and lives on the edge of skid row, that he relies on pawnshops to make ends meet each month, that he has battled a lifetime of schizophrenia and a long list of other ailments. The music pulls him through — and so does the memory of his mother, who taught Jamal to live life without excuses.
