Reader Photos: Best of Southern California Moments for July

From looking at July’s images it’s obvious we’re in the middle of summer — jumping through a sprinkler on a hot day, playing on the beach, baseball games, water-powered jet packs.

Jet packs?

This month we crossed an important milestone. At 1,977 images, our first user gallery just got too big! That’s not counting the 6,098 items that have been submitted (at the time of writing) to our L.A. Times Community group on Flickr. That’s more than 8,000 total images, in 214 days. In the meantime we’ve created a second gallery readers may submit their images to, but we’re still considering photos from the first.

For the first week of August we’re challenging you to go mobile. Break out Instagram, boot up Hipstamatic, just tell us what app you’re using and what phone you shot it with. We’ll be publishing mobile — and only mobile — photos all week.
