Cameras in and out of court
May 28, 1947: Newspaper photographers grab photos of George “Bud” Gollum, 21, and Beulah Louise Overell, 18, during morning recess of their murder trial in Santa Ana.
During a 19-week sensational trial, the couple were acquitted in the murder of Overell’s parents. Local and national media packed the courthouse, attracted by the couple’s love letters and nature of the crime — they were accused of bludgeoning the parents and covering up the crime by dynamiting the victims’ yacht.
For more on the Overell murder trial check out this 1988 Los Angeles Times article.
