Herb Ritts: L.A. Style – April 2-Aug. 26
Herb Ritts’ work and style can be found at the gallery at the Getty Museum through the summer. Ritts’ work is legendary and iconic, his signature style unmatched. His work on models in the late 1980s solidified the supermodel. His imagery, including the nudes, toggles effortlessly between art and editorial, and also brought the coolness of the Southern California landscape and lifestyle to the spotlight with his style reaching mass appeal for class and elegance. Ritts’ method and approach translated to music videos and commercials during his short career, which was cut short in 2002 by an untimely death from AIDS.
The Getty’s presentations of photography always showcases the collection in an aptly artistic and smartly curated sensibility. Presenting the work in the spring and summer is also precise and fitting.
