An evening of photography and music as part of MOPLA
Los Angeles is an electric place with something worthwhile happening every night of the week. This Friday, there are multiple photography events that are all good, but I’d like to highlight the MOPLA (Month of Photography) closing party, sponsored by the Lucie Foundation, the parent organization for MOPLA; KCRW radio; and Los Angeles-based Stones Throw Records.
The closing event will be filled with photography and music, with performances by Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf, Jonti, Gary Wilson and Jonwayne as well as photography by B+, Eric Coleman, Joao Canziani and Viviane Oh. The evening is packed with nonstop sensory enticements.
There also will be a silent auction to benefit SNAPSHOP!, a photography program to benefit at-risk youths supported by the Lucie Foundation. A portion of the ticket sales will go to Pablove Shutterbugs, a program that teaches kids living with cancer the craft of photography.
On top of all this, there will also be a projection of Los Angeles Times photography from one year – one published photograph each day from March 27, 2010 – March 27, 2011. It’s quite an interesting look at how the year was covered at The Times.
