March 9, 1970: The original Times caption reported:

Tank truck that exploded and burned in a tunnel connecting northbound Harbor and San Diego freeway lies amid foam sprayed by firemen. Driver, Robert Joy, 48, of Upland, was killed in crash, which occurred at 9:15 a.m. Monday when tanker hit abutment. The cargo of liquid oxygen exploded and the truck’s diesel fuel burned. Tunnel was closed until 5:30 pm for damage check.
