Start of harness race
March 13, 1954: A harness race at Santa Anita begins with the use of a mobile gate. The gate, attached to car, was swept away once race started.
The horses are pulling a two-wheel cart called a sulky. The Times reported that 14,910 fans attended the first Saturday of harness racing for the season at Santa Anita in Arcadia.
