Dodgers 1977 starting lineup

April 6, 1977: The 1977 Dodgers starting lineup on opening day pose in their street clothes for Times photographer Mark Malone. From left: Reggie Smith (right field), Ron Cey (third base), pitcher Don Sutton, Davey Lopes (second base), Bill Russell (short stop), manager Tom Lasorda, catcher Steve Yeager,  Rick Monday (center field), Steve Garvey (first base) and Dusty Baker (left field).

This photo appeared in the April 7, 1977, edition of the Los Angeles Times, on opening day. The Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants, 5-1, giving rookie manager Tom Lasorda his first win.

The 1977 Dodgers won the National League West with a 98-64 record and won the  National League Championship Series in four games over the Philadelphia  Phillies. They lost the 1977 World Series to the New York Yankees in six games.

    Opening day the Giants Gary Thomasson hit the first pitch of the season for a home run.
