Reader photos: Best of Southern California moments for June

One thing I noticed about this month’s selections is a lack of black-and-white photos. While we usually have about an even split between color and black-and-white photos, June’s are mostly color. Is this likely due to a seasonal change among photographers who want to take advantage of the bright light and vibrant colors offered by the sunlight and the extended “golden hour” late in the day? Even with my iPhone, I’ve started switching from my standard Hipstamatic BlackKeys Supergrain film to (gasp!) the subtle colors of DC Film.

Regardless of the camera, the “film” or the lens used, we’re after good pictures. This month’s standouts include an image of Asher Bradshaw performing a trick at an amateur skateboarding competition, community members celebrating the Leimert Park Art Walk’s second anniversary, and perhaps the most bizarre photo of the month, a wooden Clint Eastwood keeping watch over the 2 Freeway. It’s amazing what you can find when you just get out there in the city and explore.

So get out there, take some pictures, if you’re feeling lucky.
