The 141st Open Championship

[Updated 7-22-12] – Ernie Els wins British Open after Adam Scott’s collapse. The South African has a strong finish to win the Claret Jug for the second time, but it’s the Australian’s four consecutive bogeys that will linger.

Brandt Snedeker stormed Royal Lytham for its second course record-matching score in as many days, a 6-under-par 64 that pushed him to a two-shot British Open lead as the second round stretched into late afternoon.

Snedeker reached 10-under with six birdies in his first 12 holes but couldn’t get the one more that would have made him the 25th man to shoot 63 in a major championship. His two-day total of 130 did tie the Open mark, though, first established by Nick Faldo in 1992 at Muirfield.

The British Open is underway.

Australian golfer Adam Scott tied the course record with a 64 at the British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes on Thursday, giving him the lead midway through the first round. Scott’s 64 included a run of eight birdies in 13 holes.

Tiger Woods spent some time atop the leaderboard before finishing with a 67. Woods hasn’t won a major since the 2008 U.S. Open.
