Highlights from Sunday, Day 2 of the Summer Olympics in London:

The U.S. men’s basketball team started slowly in its opening game but rallied to defeat France easily, 98-71, at the Olympic Park arena.

U.S. gymnast Kyla Ross performs on the uneven bars during the women’s gymnastics qualifying round.

Also included in the roundup:  Marianne Vos of The Netherlands outsprinted Britain’s Elizabeth Armitstead to win the gold medal in the women’s road cycling race; China’s Chen Ruolin practices her women’s 10-meter platform divel; and beach volleyball plays out at Horse Guards Parade in the heart of London.
