‘Aw, Mom, Not Here! What’ll Mantle think?’

1957: The original Mirror-News caption reported:

Mrs. Robert Luxton gives son Robert a big kiss for good luck yesterday as East Lennox Little League Yankees met Giants. It’s obvious the Mickey Mantle of 1967 didn’t go for such activity, even from Mom.

This photo by staff photographer Loren Patty was lead art for the May 13, 1957, Mirror-News sports page. The afternoon Mirror-News, owned by Times Mirror, closed in 1962.

Well, either there is a typo in the original caption, or they don’t know Yankees history. If the Times-Mirror disappeared in 1962, they wouldn’t be concerned with 1967 (one year before Mantle retired).

Since that photo could have been me and my mom, I wonder if Robert can be found to comment?
