Best of the Web
This is a real reality show edited really nicely. For New York Fashion Week a couple weeks ago, designer Diane von Furstenberg partnered with Glass, a Google technology, to film directly from what the eyes see using glasses in not-so-attractive frames. The perspective and the quality are much better than you would imagine and the short film is entertaining.
I accidentally stumbled upon this rich collection of video portraits that weave together personalities of Los Angeles by Joris Debeij. These stories are a sliver of the individuals’ lives that offers a level of raw transparency that is touching and sincere. Each story is as unique as much as the people are diverse. I suggest bookmarking this page and slowly making your way through these short films. One personality I particularly liked was Living the Dream, the story of artist Chase. Chances are you’ve seen his work around town.
Made by Hand No 4 The Cigar Shop
A few months back, I talked about the other films from the series Made by Hand. At that time, it was indicated that the short film “The Cigar Shop” was coming soon. I revisited the site to see if it was ready and, lucky me, it was. It’s a beautifully crafted piece and paces with ease. The visuals are engaging to the point where I could practically smell the cigars.
NOTE: Some graphic content.
I like to visit Bombay Flying Club every so often. This visit, they had something seriously important going on. This piece of visual storytelling is really well done with the mix of stills and motion. The voice of the piece, Dr. Erik Erichsen, speaks candidly of the situation and tells the story of this small hospital in a rural town in Ethiopia with a concise pace that is extremely engaging.
