We begin this installment of The Week in Sports in Illinois, where Jim Furyk of the U.S. reacts to a missed par putt on the 18th green as the European team celebrates during the Ryder Cup.

In NFL action, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith gets a throw off  under pressure from the New York Jets’ Yeremiah Bell; Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green pulls in a pass in front of Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis; and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs’ helmet is tackled after losing his helmet during a  game against the Ravens.

Other action includes  base jumper Florian Pays leaping from Malaysia’s 1,389-foot landmark KL Tower; surfers in South Africa attempt to break the Guinness world record for the most surfers on a wave at one time; and Bulgarian oil wrestlers — yes, Bulgarian oil wrestlers — compete near the village of Cherna.
