December 1963: Mrs. Joe Melton, teller at Security First National Bank in Fulton-Riverside, holds money illustrating the median income of San Fernando Valley families: $8,736.
This photo accompanied a Dec. 29, 1963, year-end San Fernando Valley Edition story on the Valley’s rapid growth. Writer Gordon Grant reported in the Los Angeles Times story:
The Valley’s median family income is actually substantially ahead of the countywide figure, officials of the Security First National Bank’s research department said.
They put the median family income for the Valley at $8,736 a year, compared with the county median of $7,046.
The Fulton-Riverside neighborhood is now part of Sherman Oaks.
