The Week in Sports | October 1 – 7, 2012

This week’s installment of  The Week in Sports begins in South Africa, where rugby players from New Zealand perform the Haka, or war dance, before a match in Soweto.

Big hits in the NFL this weekend include Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton being dragged to the ground by Miami Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith;  Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb getting his helmet ripped off  by St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Jermelle Cudjo, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness; and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin diving for the end zone past Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis.

Major League Baseball is now in the playoffs. The Oakland A’s clinched the AL West title with a victory over the Texas Rangers on the last day of the season; in Baltimore, a father-son duo shaved their heads in support of the Orioles.

Elsewhere, Los Angeles Sparks’ Candace Parker walks off the court after being swept by the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA  Western Conference Finals; a Mexican goalkeeper is scored on by South Africa during the Mexico City 2012 Homeless World Cup soccer match in Mexico City; and bodybuilders flex their muscles on stage during the Kosovo national bodybuilding championship in Pristina. Enjoy.
