Los Alamitos — A hearse with the body of Army Ranger Sgt. Thomas R. MacPherson, who was killed during combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on Oct. 12, 2012, arrives at Los Alamitos Army Airfield. A funeral serivce is scheduled for Friday. MacPherson, who was 26 and a graduate of Los Alamitos High School, was killed by small-arms fire in Afghanistan's Ghazni province during his fourth deployment to the country. MacPherson is survived by his wife, Claudia MacPherson, their son, Brayden, and his parents, Troy and Diona MacPherson of Long Beach. MacPherson was born July 20, 1986, in Long Beach. He enlisted in the Army in May 2007 and completed basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.
