Monday’s Pictures in the News begins in Bangledesh, where garment workers walk on the burned stairs of the nine-story Tazreen Fashion plant in Dhaka. A slice of life image from Indonesia shows a student on a bicycle taking a popular shortcut on an aqueduct that separates Plumpungan Village and Suro Village on his way to school in Karanganyar.

Elsewhere, a couple enjoy Christmas illumination with LED lights that changes into seven colors in Tokyo’s Shiodome; members of a Kosovar folklore group perform in Pristina; and a pedestrian pushes his bike through flood water in the town Tewkesbury in western England after heavy rain and strong winds battered areas of Britain over the weekend, killing two people and flooding 800 homes.
