Music Critic
Former Los Angeles Times staff photographer Jack Herod plays music with a friend – or music critic? This photo was published in the March 1954 edition of “Among Ourselves” – a former publication for Times Mirror employees.
During the 1950s and 1960s, “Among Ourselves” published “The Candid Eye,” a photography column in which staff photographers submitted their favorite images. Usually, the photos were award-winning images published in the Los Angeles Times and Mirror-News – but not this one. Retired staff photographer Paul Calvert – who had plenty of award-winning images – submitted this photo of a former co-worker. I’m glad he did.
