Come with me, we’re about to take a trip. We’ll start off at the information desk at Union Station, where we’ll get directions for the rest of our journey. From there, we’ll perch on a bridge above Whittier Boulevard, where Michael Ares shows us a biker perfectly positioned between the shadows of palm trees.

Then we’ll head over to Wilshire and Normandie, where Ramiro Delgado Ruiz gets us close enough to a welder that we can see wisps of his beard under a welding mask. Meanwhile, its raining in Culver City, but the rain only serves as a prop for Erin Xavier, who shows us the blurred outline of a tree through a wet car windshield.

But wait, we’re only halfway through. Have you seen the giraffes in downtown L.A.? There they are, craning their necks over the wall, and Romeo Doneza uses a conveniently placed one-way sign and its shadow to point out both the giraffes and a passerby. Look down at the tire tracks and footprints of Hermosa Beach at sunset: They’ll lead us to our next destination. We’re almost there, and the light’s almost perfect!

Juan Luis Ramirez has already scouted out our last stop. From over the 10 Freeway, overlooking downtown in City Terrace, we can almost see it. Just a little further now. Now look! Here we are with Bobby Gibbons at the top of L.A., looking out over Griffith Park, Los Angeles, the beach cities, Palos Verdes, all the way to Catalina Island.

What a January.
