In the wake of the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, supporters in Caracas cry outside the military hospital where Chavez died, while fans of his in Nicaragua attend a ceremony in his honor at Revolution Square in Managua.

In the U.S., a late winter storm is expected to cover the Mid-Atlantic region after dropping almost a foot of snow across the West and Midwest.

In Europe, lava erupts at the New Sud-Est crater of Mt. Etna’s volcano in Sicily, and dragon boat athletes are in silhouette against the sinking sun as they practice in Germany.

In Egypt, a man gestures to riot police during clashes near the state security building in Port Said.
