Oct. 19, 1978: Golfers ignore an airplane sitting at the Penmar Golf Course in Venice. The aircraft made a forced landing on the fairway following takeoff from Santa Monica Airport, then was pushed under nearby trees so golf could continue. The pilot made a dead-stick landing after the engine quit. No one was injured.
This photo taken by retired staff photographer George Fry was stand-alone lead art on the Oct. 20, 1978, Los Angeles Times Metro section front page.
