The seventh annual Cultural Day at the Grove brought out performers representing L.A.'s sister cities on Sunday. The Niari Dance Ensemble from the Valley brought groups to represent Yerevan, Armenia. Niari volunteer Margaret Nalbandian puts makeup on Aline Nagarian as Nareen Arkian looks on.

A participant jumps into a puddle of mud during the so-called Dirty Pig Festival in Hergisdorf,Germany. The people of Hergisdorf use the annual event to banish the winter season. The puddle jumpers (the Dreckschweine) play the winter, participants dressed in white act as the summer. The participants in white use whips to force the puddle jumpers away, so that summer wins over winter.

A female hostage is evacuated by Israeli security forces following a bank robbery that escalated into a hostage situation in the Israeli city of Beersheva. Four people were killed and three others wounded in a botched bank heist in southern Israel, which ended when a robber who had held a hostage shot himself dead, police said.
