‘The Los Angeles Times Photographer Series’ with Barbara Davidson — July 18, 2013

Times photographer Barbara Davidson will be the next featured speaker at “The Los Angeles Times Photographer Series” Julia Dean Photo Workshops.

The event is free and open to the public.

Davidson has been at The Times since 2007 and previously worked at the Dallas Morning News, the Washington Times and the Record in Ontario, Canada.

She is the recipient of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for project on the victims of gang violence. A video from this project was also awarded an Emmy for multimedia story telling.

She has covered the war in Iraq, the tsunami in Sri Lanka and the Sichuan earthquake in China. Her work has also taken her to Afghanistan, Somalia, South Sudan, Congo, Israel, the Gaza Strip, Yemen, Nigeria and Rwanda.

Her photographs were part of a staff entry by the Dallas Morning News that won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography for coverage of Hurricane Katrina. She also won the newspaper photographer of the year title in the Pictures of the Year International competition.

Davidson was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and graduated from Concordia University with a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in photography and film studies. Davidson holds both Irish and Canadian citizenships.
