A bus swerved off the 210 Freeway and overturned in Irwindale, where we begin Friday’s Pictures in the News. More than 50 people were injured in Thursday’s accident in the San Gabriel Valley. Witnesses said they saw the bus, carrying passengers to a casino in San Bernardino County, brake hard before swerving across multiple lanes and ending up on its side. “There were elderly people stuck on top of the other. They were going about 70 mph and got thrown onto each other,” said a truck driver who witnessed the crash. Story

Up  north, the Rim fire near Yosemite National Park has grown to more than 100,000 acres in its sixth day of burning largely out of control through steep, rugged terrain. More photos
