Wednesday’s Pictures in the News begins in New York, with a photo memorializing New York City Firefighter Robert James Crawford, who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. His photo was placed at memorial by his family as they came to the World Trade Center site to participate in ceremonies for the 12th anniversary of the attacks. Americans returned Wednesday to the grim task of commemorating the worst act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history, the day Islamist fundamentalists seized four airliners and killed nearly 3,000 people in a disaster known simply as 9/11.
