Friday’s Pictures in the News begins in Arizona, where Dodger pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu jumps into the pool to join his teammates after defeating the Diamondbacks and clinching the National League’s Western Division at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Dodgers’ long journey to a division title ends in the Diamondbacks’ pool. That doesn’t sit well with Arizona officials, but the Dodgers say there is no disrespect involved. Story

New York: People wanting to buy the Apple iPhone 5 walk down a circular stairway into the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in New York. Some people waited as long as 15 days in line outside the store to be the first to buy the phone.

Washington, D.C.: A full moon sets behind the Washington Monument. The monument is covered with scaffolding for repairs following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Northeast in August 2011.

Chicago: Officials and emergency responders tend to a victim at the scene where a number of people, including a 3-year-old child, were shot Thursday night in a city park. Thursday night’s attack was the latest violence in a city that has struggled to stop such shootings by increasing police patrols.

Berlin: A person walks in front a transparent tent, while members of the Green Party  answer questions of voters inside. Germany’s general elections are scheduled for Sunday.

Add stops in Brazil, Italy, India, Turkey and South Africa to round out the report.
