Friday’s Pictures in the News begins in Russia as the 2014 Sochi Olympics are underway with the opening ceremonies at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. Earlier in the day, Bode Miller of the USA made his second training run on the Men’s Downhill course at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Center in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia.

Burbank: Jay Leno chats with comic Billy Crystal during a commercial break in Leno’s final appearance as host of “The Tonight Show.” Once Crystal hit the stage, he effectively drove the program.

Rio de Janeiro: A TV cameraman is hit by an unknown explosive device during protests against the rising cost of transportation. The cameraman was hospitalized in serious condition.
