Duesseldorf, Germany: A  float depicting Russia’s president  Vladimir Putin, with a bicep in the shape of a ticking bomb reading ‘Crimea,’  takes part in the traditional carnival parade.

Pretoria, South Africa: Oscar Pistorius stands in the foyer of his lawyers’ offices during the lunchtime break  as he faces trial in the slaying of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Gold Coast, Australia: Tiago Pires of Portugal in action during Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast surfing event of the ASP World Tour.

Bangkok, Thailand: An anti-government protester walks beside tents at Lumpini park, where anti-government protesters began settling in in the center of Bangkok on Sunday, withdrawing from other sites after their numbers began to dwindle and attackers endangered their security.

Add stops in England, Indonesia and Washington to round out the report.
