A fire in a detached garage-residence in South Los Angeles claimed the life of a 2-year-old boy and a woman, according to fire officials. The father of the deceased boy sits with head in hand outside the front of the home. The two appear to have died of smoke inhalation, which LAFD officials said is most likely due to a lack of operable smoke detectors.
