In Thursday’s Pictures in the News, pallbearers carry the casket of Los Angeles Police Officer Nicholas Lee in to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels for his public funeral service. Lee died in a traffic accident in Beverly Hills while responding to a call.

New York: Firemen watch as work crews remove debris from the smoking site of an explosion in East Harlem in New York City.  At least seven people were killed, according to reports, in Wednesday’s explosion, which collapsed two buildings on Park Avenue at 116th Street.

Pretoria, South Africa: Oscar Pistorius listens to forensic evidence during his trial. Pistorius is charged with the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Caracas, Venezuela: Protesters and riot police clash as 3,000 students marched Wednesday to mark a month since the first deaths in anti-government protests that have now claimed at least 22 lives.
