About 100 people gathered near the San Ysidro border crossing to show support for Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who is being held in a Mexican jail on weapons charges. Tahmooressi, who did two tours of duty in Afghanistan, missed the last U.S. exit off the 5 Freeway and ended up in Mexico on April 1. Border agents arrested him after finding a shotgun, handgun and rifle in his truck. The guns are legal in the U.S., but not in Mexico. He was in San Diego to get treatment for PTSD.

Donetsk, Ukraine: A pro-Russian gunman walks by coffins of those killed in fighting with Ukrainian troops.  The Kiev government condemned the insurgency roiling the east as the work of “terrorists” bent on destroying the country and blames Russia for fomenting it. Russia denies the accusation, saying it has no influence over rebels, who insist they are only protecting the interests of Russian-speakers in the east.
