Chuck Berry gets a star

Chuck Berry gets a star

Oct. 8, 1987: Singer Chuck Berry gets his Hollywood Walk of Fame star as a tour bus drives by with “We Love Chuck” sign.

This photo by former staff photographer Thomas Kelsey was published in the Oct. 9, 1987, Los Angeles Times. The published caption reported:

Chuck Berry, a rock ‘n’ roll showman for three decades, was again the center of attention in one of Hollywood’s most celebrated rituals, the placement of a star on the Walk of Fame. While some of the crowd had to jostle for position … to get a glimpse of Berry as he did his famous “Duck Walk,” others had a better view atop a polka-dotted Wonder Bread bus.

Berry’s star is on the west side of Vine Street opposite the Capital Records Building. For more on Chuck Berry, check out this article on the Los Angeles Times Hollywood Star Walk project.
