Lost in Space robot in fashion shoot [updated]

Lost in Space robot in fashion shoot [updated]

1965: Model wearing dress designed by Sue Webb for Pixie of California poses with the robot “B-9″ on set of television show “Lost in Space.” [A previous version identified Robby as the robot in this photo, when in fact it is the robot “B-9.”]

This photo by staff photographer Nelson Tiffany was published in the Nov. 4, 1965, Los Angeles Times. The accompanying text by staff writer Julie Byrne reported:

Time barriers are easily broken by the natural-born flirt.

This universal girl could be catapulted by a time machine into the future and feel right at home.

Even on an unknown asteroid she’d be sure to find a local inhabitant to charm.

When we orbited a flirtatious type onto a set at 20th Century Fox she even caused a robot, from the television show “Lost in Space,” to go into automatic scramble…

This image, filed in the Los Angeles Times archives under “robot,” was the lead photo in a three-picture layout. The other two – with a Knott’s Berry Farm wooden Indian and with a scarecrow – will be added when found.

[Updated: The robot on the Lost in Space set was misidentified in earlier version of this post.]

Robby The Robot was a different mechanical creature–from the 1956 "Forbidden Planet." The "Lost In Space" robot was subsequently referred to as "B-9" (a play on "benign")–but not by the characters, who always called him "The Robot." As I recall, Robby appeared In one "Lost in Space" episode trying to corrupt B-9.

You have named the wrong robot. The one pictured is not Robby. Robby the Robot was in the movie "Forbidden Planet" with Leslie Nielsen. At one time Robbie was featured on Lost In Space in Episode titled "Condemned of Space".

The episode info was easily found by doing a quick search of the web. For future reference here is where to research Lost in Space, http://lostinspace.wikia.com.

That is NOT Robby The Robot, it is B9. Please correct this egregious error!
