Each week we bring you the very best in visual journalism. We start The Week in Pictures off with a dramatic image from Liberia, where a woman tries to help her husband after he fell and was knocked unconscious in an Ebola ward in Monrovia. People suspected of contracting the Ebola virus are being sent by Liberian health workers to the center, a closed primary school originally built by USAID. The death toll stands at more than 1,000.

Ferguson, Mo.: Demonstrators continue to protest the killing of teenager Michael Brown outside Greater St. Marks Family Church, as Brown’s family met inside with civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton to discuss the killing. More photos

Hollywood: A memorial continues to grow on Robin Williams’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star after he was found dead in his Northern California home. More photos

Warren, Mich.: Cars are stranded along a flooded stretch of Interstate 696. Warren Mayor James Fouts said roughly 1,000 vehicles had been abandoned in floodwaters in the suburb where many roads were closed after 5.2 inches of rain fell Monday.

Fishkhabur, Iraq: Displaced Iraqis from the Yazidi community cross the Iraqi-Syrian border by walking on a bridge over the Tigris River. At least 20,000 civilians, mostly Yazidis, were besieged by Sunni militants on a mountain in northern Iraq before they escaped to Syria and were escorted by Kurdish forces back into Iraq.

Tiefencastel, Switzerland: A passenger train traveling from St. Moritz to Chur in eastern Switzerland was derailed by a landslide. Eleven people were injured by the accident.

Key Largo, Fla: U.S. government scientists hope people will soon be able to go online and get a 360-degree view of such underwater wonders as the Christ of the Abyss reef, much like Google Map’s street view lets people look at homes.

Los Angeles: Paul McCartney greets a sold-out Dodger Stadium crowd before his first performance at the stadium since the Beatles played there 48 years ago.

Las Vegas: Grammy-nominated music producer and DJ Steve Aoki is helped up by his team after body-surfing the crowd during his show at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
