The Los Angeles County Fair is featuring a new nighttime exhibit called Luminasia, a sprawling display of larger-than-life Chinese lanterns. The fair is also erecting more umbrellas, shaded areas and moving exhibits to indoor, air-conditioned spaces after last year's late summer heat.

Police search for evidence Wednesday after an officer-involved shooting in the 6300 block of Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. The incident began when a vehicle taken in a carjacking sped away with police in pursuit. At one point, police say, someone fired at officers, then fled before finally being captured.
