July, 1936: An aerial photo of downtown Long Beach. In the foreground is the Silver Spray Pier with the Cyclone Racer roller coaster. Just beyond it is the Rainbow Pier, a horseshoe-shaped breakwater encircling the Municipal Auditorium.

Just above the Silver Spray Pier is Lincoln Park. In the distance is the Signal Hill oil field.

This photo by Spence Air Photos was published in the Sunday, July 26, 1936, Los Angeles Times Rotogravure section.

The Spence Air Photos archives are now at the UCLA Department of Geography.
