Surfer shoots the (broken) pier in Seal Beach

Feb. 11, 1983: A surfer rides a wave through a missing middle section of the Seal Beach Municipal Pier, washed out by a Jan. 27 storm.

This photo by staff photographer Cliff Otto was published in the Feb. 11, 1983, Los Angeles Times late edition.

The rebuilt Seal Beach Pier reopened two years later.

    He's "dropping in" , not shooting the pier. Anyone can see that.
