Oscar party on ‘The Poseidon Adventure’ movie set

April 10, 1972: Academy Award winner Gene Hackman cuts cake on the set of his new film, “The Poseidon Adventure,” at 20th Century Fox. Other cast members are, from left, Jack Albertson, Red Buttons,  director Ronald Neame, Shelley Winters and Ernest Borgnine.

At the 44th Academy Awards, Gene Hackman won the lead actor Oscar for his role in “The French Connection.” One of his post-Oscar parties included a stop on the set of “The Poseidon Adventure,” joining previous Oscar winners in a group photo.

Jack Albertson won the Academy Award for supporting actor for the 1968 movie “The Subject Was Roses.”

Red Buttons won supporting actor for 1957’s “Sayonara.”

“The Poseidon Adventure” director Ronald Neame had three previous Academy Award nominations for special effects and writing.

Shelley Winters twice won the Academy Award for supporting actress for the 1959 movie “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and 1965’s “A Patch of Blue.”

Ernest Borgnine won the Academy Award for lead actor for the 1955 movie “Marty.”

In addition to “The French Connection” Oscar win, Hackman later won the supporting actor Oscar for the 1992 movie “Unforgiven.”

“The Poseidon Adventure,” nominated for eight Academy Awards, won for original song (“The Morning After”). The movie also won a Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects at the 1973 Academy Awards.
