V.J. Day parade on Broadway

V.J. Day parade on Broadway

Aug. 14, 1945: After hearing of Japan’s unconditional surrender ending World War II, an impromptu parade quickly formed at 4th Street and Broadway in downtown Los Angeles.

Traffic was paralyzed for hours, confetti, scraps of every sort swirled down on celebrants.

This photo by staff photographer Frank Q. Brown was published in the Aug. 15, 1945, Los Angeles Times.

I’ll be posting many additional V.E. Day and V.J. Day photos later this year. But since I could take a current photo of Broadway – below – I’m posting this now.
