In Thursday’s Pictures in the News, strong winds were enough to part a beard, — in this case, B. Singh’s as he makes his way up Winnetka Ave. in Winnetka on Wednesday. Strong Santa Ana winds swirled around areas of Southern California amid low humidity levels raising a high risk of wildfires in much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, the National Weather Service warned. A red flag warning denoting a danger of wildfires went into effect at 5 a.m. and was scheduled to remain in force through Thursday evening.

Sacramento Kings forward Carl Landry went upside down as he chased a loose ball into the crowd in the second half against the Lakers at the Staples Center on Wednesday. The Lakers were beaten by the Kings, 122-99, to finish the season with a record of 21-61. The .256 winning percentage is the worst in franchise history.

About 1,000 people including union members, fast-food  workers and college professors rallied in front of McDonald’s on South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles to appeal for higher wages. The group then marched down Figueroa Street to the campus of USC, where some of the teachers are trying to unionize.

And there’s more.
