James Price, 22, comforts his mother, Jennifer Rivers, who was mourning the death of Tavin Price, her other son and James' brother. Tavin Price, 19, was buying a soda when two men approached him and asked him his gang affiliation based on the color of his red shoes. He walked to a nearby car wash, where the men shot and killed him in front of his mother. Three men have now been charged in the slaying.

LaBonge's friends and family, as well as members of the public, attended the event marking his long career in Los Angeles. He was elected to his first four-year term as a councilman in 2003 and to his second four-year term in 2007. LaBonge has been termed out and will be vacating his post soon.
